Strategic Thinking, Shared Joy – Highlights from the Inclusive Chess Workshop 2024

A Unique Event for Unique Learners

Hosted by the ICPMCSQC and led by Mr. Mohundas Teeluck, the Inclusive Chess Workshop for Children with Special Needs brought together young participants from across the island—including the Flacq Disabled Centre—for two days of learning, playing, and connection.

This pioneering event was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of:

Day 1 – Learning & Launch

  • 12:00 – Registration and welcome

  • 13:30 – First chess initiation sessions

  • 15:30 – More practice and engagement

  • 17:00Launching Ceremony, MC’d by Ton Simon, with keynote speeches from:

    • Mr. Mohundas Teeluck (President, ICPMCSQC)

    • Mr. Hurrynarain Bhowany (President, Mauritius Chess Federation)

    • Mr. Bruno Burbach (Chess Consultant)

  • 20:00 – Entertainment session by Ton Simon, followed by a late evening social

Day 2 – Competition and Celebration

Sunday opened with a hearty breakfast and moved into the tournament phase, where students could apply their new skills in a fun, friendly format.

The day also featured:

  • Indoor games and activities

  • A celebratory Award Ceremony led by MC Neelam Sharma, with a special address by:

    • His Excellency Mr. Vimars Aryan, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Mauritius

  • Inspiring contributions from Mr. Teeluck, Mr. Bhowany, and Mr. Burbach

More Than Just a Game

This chess workshop showed that inclusion and strategy can go hand in hand. Every child left with not just improved skills, but also new friendships and lasting confidence.

The Flacq Disabled Centre was proud to be part of this landmark event that proved: everyone belongs on the board.
